FOOD & DRINK, THE NOTICEBOARD

Night Tales brings Tokyo Nights to Shoreditch

Night Tales Tokyo Nights food stalls

The team behind street food market Night Tales opens new Tokyo-inspired pop-up.

Just off the Old Street roundabout is a buzzy new set-up that recreates scenes straight from the streets of Tokyo. With flickering neon street signs, Japanese lanterns and scripts engraved in wood throughout the space, you won’t forget there’s an overarching theme any time soon. Another thing you’re guaranteed not to do is go hungry. Or thirsty for that matter. The four bars and many more food stalls will see to that.

Among those stalls are the likes of Patty & Bun, who have gone to town creating signage especially for the pop-up and serving up burgers with bacon dashi and Asian vegetables alongside their signature Ari Gold favourites, and Bubbledogs who are topping their hot dogs with Asian salads and good old Sriracha sauce. Dorshi Dumplings offers a popular selection of steamed and fried dumplings, and Nanny Bill’s has Teppanyaki short rib beef buns you need to check out, whilst Walter and Monty are smoking all sorts of meat over charcoal to keep you warmed up throughout the night.

There’s plenty of liquid refreshment too, most of which have been infused with Asian flavours, from oolong tea-infused gin and chai-infused brandy to Japanese whiskey and plenty of sake (there’s a dedicated sake bar in the middle of the site).

Between late November and mid-December, you can also have a seat (£35 per person) at the Ramusake Supper Club where you can enjoy a Japanese feast that includes beef tataki, a tuna sashimi taco and miso-grilled black cod. All this is enjoyed against a thumping backdrop with a live DJ to help get you in the party mood.

Open until 19 December 2015.
