How’s this for a fashionable afternoon tea? Designer Matthew
Williamson adds his twist to a tasty British tradition
(…Matthew Williamson not included).
Who said fashion designers weren’t versatile? Because Matthew Williamson here has managed to turn his hand to designing a pretty stylish afternoon tea at Covent Garden’s Balthazar.
This foodie collaboration, which marks the restaurant’s second anniversary, has been inspired by the British designer’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Expect favourites such as smoked chicken, egg mayonnaise and cucumber sandwiches followed by Irish buttermilk scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, topped off with a selection of colourful pastries reminiscent of Williamson’s flair for pretty designs.
Those wanting to celebrate in style can also enjoy a specially-created cocktail, Chasing Rainbows, named after David Bailey’s book featuring photographs of model Marie Helvin, the inspiration behind Williamson’s collection. The cocktail is made with Pinky vodka, Lillet Blanc, yellow Chartreuse, brut Champagne and crystallised rose petals.
Available from 6th Feb – 1st May. The afternoon tea costs £25 (£35 with the cocktail) per person.
