The alternative hotel for savvy business travellers
If you like the service aspect of staying in a hotel but want the flexibility and living space that an apartment provides, an ‘aparthotel’ – a fairly new alternative hotel concept that perfectly merges the two functions, may be exactly what you need.
Templeton Place in Earls Court is one such offering – and one of three that the Supercity Aparthotels group offer.
What is it like?
Templeton Place is a very handsome building and sits on a lovely quiet street with a large garden at the back. Inside, it is very white, but there are bright and fun touches around to liven it all up – colourful wooden animal sculptures are a theme in the corridors and reception for example.
The one bedroom suites are very decent in side and offer a practical amount of living space. There’s ample room for a two-seater sofa, a desk, a fantastic fully-equipped kitchen and dining table that sits four at a squeeze.
The place is smart but comfortable and also very clean. The kitchen draws and cupboards are fully-kitted out with pots and pans, crockery and cutlery so you can entertain guests without a hitch. There’s also a Nespresso coffee machine with plenty of pods to fulfil your caffeine fix, and milk in the fridge – actual milk, no UHT milk pods here. You can even do your laundry – a washing machine and dryer is tucked away in the kitchen.
In the bathroom, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries and a full set of towels are provided. There’s also a heated towel rail but it seemed permanently switched off with no way of turning it on, as the dial was ‘invisibly’ taped closed.
Taking a shower is a little awkward – the shower head is fixed and the curve of the bath means you have to stand further away, so you end up having to angle your body unnaturally towards the water.
The bedroom area is sectioned off so feels quite private and the king-size bed and full pillows are perfectly snug. A radio with built-in alarm function sits at a side table and you can even watch TV in bed (there’s another one in the main living area, both flat screens). You’ll find the hairdryer in here too but it won’t be going anywhere – the power cable is fixed inside the wardrobe so you just have to dry your hair in the bedroom, standing by the wardrobe, with its doors wide open.
What services are included?
This is one of the main benefits of staying in an aparthotel – there is a weekly maid service and a manned reception/concierge during working hours should you have any questions or be expecting guests. Complimentary Wi-Fi comes as standard. You also have access to a Zipcar which is parked locally so you can get around easily.
Situated just a three minute walk from Earls Court Tube Station, it is ideally suited for business travellers. The Earls Court Exhibition Centre is very close by and the local Tube station is just one connection away from the Olympia London Exhibition Centre, so there isn’t far to travel if you need to be in town for the events taking place at either of these venues.
The easyBus service to Gatwick, Stansted or Luton Airports is also available outside Earls Court station and Heathrow Airport is just 30 minutes on the Piccadilly line if you take the Tube.
There are 18 studio suites and 12 one bedroom suites. Prices per night start from £144 for a studio suite and £168 for a one bedroom suite.
